| ~Death to all wicked poets~ I absolutely adore the Le Chevelier D`eon manga series and when I first opened the pages of the first volume and saw Lia in her battle dress I was blown away and knew right then and there that I had to make the costume for myself! As complicated as this dress looks it actually was not too hard to make. I borrowed a dress pattern for Elizabeth Swan from Pirates Of The Carribean and simply altered the sleeves and the skirt to look like Lia`s. (the liz dress did not have bell sleeves or lace layers) I made this entire dress from blue velveteen and did all the gold filigree by fabric paint and wall stencils found in the interior design section of Jo`Ann fabrics. Total I think I used about 8 yards of velvet and another 6 yards of satin for the underskirt and then for the ruffled parts used another 4 yards of filigreed bridal satin. A 4 ring hoop skirt was required underneath to support all the fabric layers. For the bonnet I hot glued pre-gathered blue and white trim to a wire frame bridal headband meant to be used for a veil. The red flower on the side was something I had in my stash. The sword was a styro foam egg layered with gloss sealer, filigreed with fabric paint and hot glue then blasted with spray paint. The handle inside and the blade are wood. I wish I could make the sword better but I am terrible at props making so I don`t invest much time into them =( So far this has been the most loyal costume for me as I have worn it on several occasions and have brought it to many conventions. Its a cosplay that I plan to keep in my inventory for a very long time and continue to use it. Hopefully someday I can get my hubby to cosplay D`eon for me and be my counterpart. Materials Used: twill cotton velveteen lace satin cotton lace fabric paint grommets silk flowers Total cost: $350 |
